Building a safe, meaningful, and supportive learning community for families.
Our Commitment to Families
Koolab is designed to foster meaningful connections between learners, parents, and educators. We believe that when families are involved in their children's learning journey, everyone thrives. These guidelines help create a supportive environment where collaboration is safe, productive, and enriching.
1. Understanding Koolab for Families
What is Koolab?
Koolab is an educational collaboration platform where learners create and join "Pods" - focused groups centered around shared learning interests, activities, or projects. Whether it's a book club, robotics group, study session, or creative project, Pods bring together students who want to learn and grow together.
Who Uses Koolab?
- Students: Learners who create and participate in Pods
- Parents: Adults who oversee their children's activities, create Pods for their kids, and stay connected to their learning
- Educators: Teachers and mentors who may facilitate or guide Pods
Parent Accounts
Parents can create their own Koolab accounts to:
- Create Pods on behalf of their children
- Monitor their child's activity and Pod participation
- Approve or manage their child's account (for children under 13)
- Connect with other parents in the community
- Stay informed about their child's collaborative learning
2. Safety Features & Parental Controls
We've built comprehensive safety features to protect young learners:
Verified Pod Creators
All Pod creators must complete verification before creating Pods. This ensures Pods are started by trusted individuals.
Parent Dashboard
View your child's Pods, activity, and connections. Stay informed without being intrusive.
AI Content Moderation
AI-powered systems review content for safety, detecting inappropriate material before it reaches users.
Local Moderation
Pod owners can enable moderation to approve members and manage content within their Pods.
Age-Appropriate Controls
Features and content visibility are adjusted based on the user's age to ensure appropriate experiences.
Membership Approval
The "Interested?" workflow lets Pod owners review and approve who joins their Pods.
For Children Under 13
Additional protections are in place for our youngest users:
- Accounts require verifiable parental consent
- Limited functionality until parent approval is received
- Parent-linked accounts with oversight access
- Enhanced content filtering
- Restricted direct messaging capabilities
- Parents can review all activity and connections
3. Guidelines for Parents & Guardians
Being an Engaged Parent on Koolab
Your involvement makes a difference. Here's how to support your child's Koolab experience:
Regular Check-ins
Use the parent dashboard to stay informed about your child's Pods and activity. Have conversations about what they're learning and who they're collaborating with.
Set Expectations Together
Discuss appropriate online behavior, time limits, and what kinds of Pods are suitable. Create a family agreement about Koolab usage.
Celebrate Learning
Acknowledge your child's achievements and contributions in their Pods. Ask about projects they're working on and people they're meeting.
Open Communication
Create an environment where your child feels comfortable coming to you with questions or concerns about their online interactions.
Creating Pods for Your Child
Parents can create Pods on behalf of their children. When doing so:
- Complete identity verification to establish trust
- Clearly describe the Pod's purpose and expectations
